More than fitness…

When people train with me, they often ask why I chose a career such as fitness. It’s easy. It’s what I always wanted to do. My mother told me very young to choose a job that didn’t feel like work. She said that if I truly enjoyed what I did, it wouldn’t feel like work.

While most people look at my abilities today and tell me, “You're still young. You don’t get it.”

I’ll tell you what I do get. I get that us, as moms, we take on the entire world every time we decide to have a child. Our bodies change dramatically and on top of that, it takes almost two years for the body to regulate and feel like yourself again. If you are a mom of mutiple toddlers, it could take even longer. I do get that adjusting to a life where you are no longer taking care of you, now your taking care of a little human, a husband, for some of us, we’re taking care of siblings, parents, everything and everyone except ourselves.

That was me. I was tired all the time. I tried the gym, I tried planet fitness but I had no clue what I was doing and I didn’t know how much personal training was or how much group fitness classes were so I told myself I couldn’t afford it. I told myself I didn’t have time for it. Then it happened…. I got sick. I was stressed, I was tired, my body was responding in a fight or flight way that I had never experienced before. The same foods I used to eat, I could no longer enjoy, I had lost my energy and no longer run with my kid without feeling winded. I was back and forth at the hospital trying to find answers and they couldn’t find any. I was looking in the mirror and I absolutely hated who was looking back at me. My weight was fluctuating, my favorite clothers weren’t fitting, I wouldn’t take a photo if you paid me to.

So I buckled down. I made some changes. I made my health a priority. Because my kid only gets one mom. That’s it. Just one. and if no one is taking care of her, where does that leave my kid? Better yet, how can I teach my kid to make healthy choices if I don’t?

It took me a while to become a fitness professional. I went to college to become a Physical Therapist Assistant because I wanted the steady income of that job to support me as a trainer. But that didn’t work out. I ended up graduating with a marketing degree and ran my own marketing business from home for a while. But that didn’t work out either. I was unhappy and stressed (hence the sickness that took over my body).

But I had learned a lot. And I was ready to apply what I had learned to what I truly wanted to do, teach health and fitness. So beginning with my own health, I began studying for my trainer exam, even with bills behind, I invested in a trainer because thats just how important my health was to me. And once I became certified, I began teaching and coaching other women on how to do the same. Now when people see me in the store, they ask if Imy son is my little brother. You know why? Because I worked for this body. I worked to look so young and healthy and not just look it, feel it.

I know what it's like to get back into shape after an injury or a major surgery. I understand what it’s like to be a tired mom, feel unsexy and unconfident in clothes you used to wear. I get it. Your body used to be able to do certain things, and now we don’t know who we are anymore. That’s why I do what I do.

So I can help you reclaim your life. No matter where you are. Work with me. Not because you admire my website or my athletic body, but because you are tired of beating yourself up. Because you are ready to take your health seriously. Because you are ready to set an example for your children. Because you are here to Lock In.
